Information

Groundswell has a team of professionally trained volunteers. As a voluntary organisation Groundswell recognises the significant role that volunteers have and places great value on those individuals who support and sustain the organisation in this way.

All Groundswell volunteers have to have an Enhanced CRB Disclosure and provide satisfactory references. Regardless of their previous experience it is compulsory that potential volunteers attend a Groundswell HIV/AIDS Awareness Workshop & Volunteer Training Course. The course is designed to cover HIV/AIDS awareness and up dating of information as well as preparing people for volunteering. The topics covered include up-to-date facts on HIV/AIDS in the UK including information around testing and treatment. The local HIV Specialist Nurses bring their expertise and experience to our course as external trainers. Course participants are encouraged to discussing issues relating to HIV such as prejudice and stigma and are given practical training about befriending and the role of the volunteer. While the course is mainly aimed at training potential volunteers individuals wanting to attend the course for information only are equally welcome and would find the course useful. Following training and as part of our induction process a Volunteer Handbook is given to all volunteers.

Programme

Groundswell has a Volunteer and Development Programme aimed at monitoring and supporting volunteers as well as helping them to identify training needs and developing their volunteering skills and experience. As part of our Volunteer Support and Development Programme volunteers are given the opportunity to receive regular group supervision, ongoing in-house and external training and development, and individual development reviews. This provides opportunity for volunteers to feed back on progress, discuss any problems that have arisen, develop personal and professional skills and receive the ongoing support and encouragement that reflects the value and significance Groundswell places in its volunteers.

Courses

Free HIV Awareness Courses are held twice per year, please contact us if you would be interested in taking part.
